Reducing Employee Sick Time by Addressing Perimenopause & Menopause

The Problem: An Overlooked Driver of Absenteeism and Burnout
Many organizations are focused on employee wellness, yet one of the most common and disruptive health issues affecting the workforce remains largely unaddressed: perimenopause and menopause.
Perimenopause can begin as early as the mid-30s to early 40s, with menopause occurring on average around age 51. These hormonal transitions can last for years and often bring symptoms that directly impact job performance, including fatigue, poor sleep, brain fog, anxiety, mood changes, migraines, hot flashes, and joint pain.
When left untreated, these symptoms contribute to increased sick time, reduced productivity, and presenteeism, employees showing up but struggle to function at their best. Despite how common this is, only about 5% of women who could benefit from menopause medical care actually receive it.
One reason for this gap is that many women seek help through traditional primary care or gynecology settings and are told their symptoms are “normal,” stress-related, or not severe enough to treat. Care is often limited by time constraints, outdated training, or a lab-only approach that overlooks symptoms. As a result, women are frequently dismissed or told to wait, allowing symptoms to worsen during critical working years.
This affects experienced, skilled employees during peak career years and has real financial and operational consequences for businesses.
A Business-Smart Solution: Accessible Hormone Care
The good news is that these symptoms are treatable. Supporting women’s hormone health is about providing appropriate, evidence-based medical care that allows employees to stay engaged, focused, and well.
At Milford Med Spa, our nurse practitioners provide comprehensive evaluations and treatment for perimenopause and menopause that focus on symptoms and function. When symptoms are addressed, most women experience improvements in sleep quality, cognition, mood stability, energy, and overall resilience, factors that directly reduce sick time and burnout.
Importantly, we accept most health insurance plans, reducing barriers to care and making treatment a realistic option for employees who might otherwise delay or go without support. Private pay options are also available for those without insurance. Our care team includes a bilingual nurse practitioner fluent in both Spanish and English, helping ensure language is not a barrier to access.
On-Site Education for Employers
To support employers, our nursing team can come on-site to businesses to educate employees about perimenopause and menopause symptoms, explain available treatment options, and outline our care pathway. This proactive education helps normalize symptoms, reduces stigma, and often accelerates employees’ access to care, minimizing prolonged productivity loss.
